Coney Island Brighton Beach Open Water Swimmers is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated, since 2005, to being the very best New York City resource for open-water swimmers. Our community hosts weekly training swims at Coney Island and Brighton Beach. We advocate for improving the environment of New York Harbor, creating better stewardship of our natural resources and promoting public access to its waters. We have formed partnerships with like-minded organizations and lend our support to a wide variety of charitable organizations.
CIBBOWS presents a series of fun and challenging ocean races that have included one-mile, marathon distance and cold-water events. We’ve hosted regional and national championships that attract swimmers from around the nation, as well as competitors from around the globe. Our fundraising helps keep public race costs to a minimum while ensuring exciting, safe, and memorable events. CIBBOWS also runs clinics for members to safely introduce them to the sport of open water swimming and improve their experience in the water.
We serve all levels of swimmers and we welcome all who are actively interested in deepening their connection to the water. Our membership includes some of the most renowned open water swimmers in the world – many of our swimmers are influential in the international swim community and are able to share their unique insight and expertise with others. Whether your dream is to swim to your first jetty or cross the English Channel, CIBBOWS provides training resources and a supportive group for you. We pride ourselves on being a kind and open community that offers support, guidance, and a lot of laughter.
We welcome donations so we can keep offering great events, clinics, etc.
