Join us for an Introductory Open Water Clinic led by experienced CIBBOWS core instructors. Swimmers will be given a safety orientation on the beach, then go into the water and swim a short distance, this will be repeated several times so swimmers get comfortable getting into the ocean, floating, treading water, being aware of surroundings and swimming confidently. Clinic will be approximately one hour. Requirements: Must be able to float, tread water, and swim at least 200 yards in a pool without stopping. No previous open water swim experience necessary. Please note – this is not a learn to swim program. Please read our essentials page before attending.
- Introduction to CIBBOWS and OWS
- Orient swimmers to the beach, jetties, lifeguards, flags, rip currents
- Discuss swimming equipment, how to avoid chaffing, sunburn, hydration, cramps etc.
- Practice water entry
- Check the current
- Try out sighting
- Try out safety strokes e.g. elementary backstroke
- Learn how to swim together
- Have fun!
Clinics are for CIBBOWS members only. Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Due to the ongoing pandemic this program will be restricted to 12 swimmers – social distancing must be maintained. Swimmers must wear a face mask while in the group on the beach. Do not come if: i) you or your family members are sick, ii) if you have experienced any COVID-19 symptoms in the past 14 days OR if iii)You have had close contact with a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case.
