When you’re on the beach at Brighton there’s this bridge on the eastern horizon that looks both close and far – you can’t quite tell for sure but geez wouldn’t it be cool to swim to it. Yeah! It’s formally known as The Marine Parkway Bridge (now the Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge) and CIBBOWS can offer you a swim to it from, get this, the Verrazano Bridge. Oh yeah! You’ve heard about the 8 Bridges swim down the Hudson starting at the Rip Van Winkle Bridge and going to the Verrazano Bridge, well this is the 9th Bridge swim and there’s even a 10th Bridge too, which we may offer to you!
For safety we will have a minimum of (2) RHIBS with either 1-2-3-4 swimmers. If we have more than 4 swimmers we will get another RHIB – determined on a case-by-case basis. Swimmers must be a similar speed as they will swim together at the same pace in a tight dolphin pod. While some of you may train together in the pool, this does not necessarily translate to open water long distance swimming – we recommend training and swimming together in the ocean at Brighton Beach to make sure you’re a good match.
Pick-up and drop-off at will be at Brighton Beach. Swimmers, crew, and observers swim out 500 feet to the RHIBS with all your food, hydration, gear for the swim in a waterproof dry bag. Bring 50′ feed rope and make sure your feed is securely tied to the rope. You will feed from the RHIB! After swimming out to the boat and receiving a safety orientation, prep for your swim and away we go, off to another swim adventure!
Ticket times are start times for the swim – swimmers, crew, boat observers need to meet and board the RHIBs (1) hour earlier at Brighton Beach.
The cost for this swim is as follows, divided up depending on number of swimmers:
$1,500 ($750 per RHIB) + $50 per person admin fee
For this swim each swimmer pays a non-refundable admin fee ($50 for members, $100 for non-members) upon registration. One TEAM CAPTAIN must pay the full boat fee deposit – then bring CASH to pay the boat captain. The boat deposit will then be refunded to your credit card. Each RHIB will have 1 or 2 swimmers. Whether there is one swimmer or up to 4 – cost is $1500 for both boats, as we need 2 boats for safety.
All participants need to be approved by swim director! Your swim history will be reviewed for this swim.
