Virtual Grimaldo’s Mile has been fun – results are still coming in – but some of you wanted to swim longer!
This time we are doing 3 distances of 2 miles, 2.4 for all you Ironman swimmers, and 3 miles. You can swim your distance anywhere you want (even a pool if you’re lucky enough to access one) and any time you want within a 2 week period – as long as you swim it continuously.
No pressure, no competition – just good fun in the water and motivation to go longer! You can record your time on a watch like a Garmin, Apple, etc. and you can use tracking apps like Strava. Or, you can just time yourself and let us know your time. If you don’t record a time we’ll have you down as just a fun swim.
When? August 29 – September 13, 2020
Where? Any pool or open water venue
What? Swim 2, 2.4 or 3 miles in a single attempt
NOTE: NYC beaches have now closed as of 9/8. We suggest you do your swim in a pool or open beach (NY State beaches will remain open until the end of September.)
Suggested course maps: If you choose to swim at Brighton Beach, below are maps of suggested courses. Lifeguards are present on the beach from 10am-6pm each day. You can swim any course, at any location.
HOW TO JOIN:
Register your participation by 11:55PM on Sunday September 13, 2020. Registration is free – but we welcome donations so that we can continue to put on live events next season. You can donate to us here. You are also welcome to fundraise for the charity of your choice.
Swim your distance
You can swim anywhere – in a pool or open water, as long as you swim one of the chosen distances in a single attempt.
Wherever you choose to swim, make sure it is safe, you don’t swim alone, you follow appropriate social distancing guidelines and wear a mask when possible.
Keep a record of your swim
Record your swim: write it down, log it on Garmin or Strava, take a photo at the end of your swim – we don’t mind how you record it! Record your time and where you did your swim!
We’re operating on an honor system so we’re trusting you to record your actual time! If you don’t want to record a time, that’s ok, too. Remember the main thing is to have fun!
If you take photos of your swim, make sure that you are properly socially distanced from other people and are wearing a mask if you are on land.
