ParticipantDue to my school schedule, I would like to be swimming by 7:30 am sometimes. Is that OK in NY? It seems like people go hysterical if you try to swim without a lifeguard. I’d have my bf on shore watching me.

KeymasterHi Christine. NYC law prohibits swimming without lifeguards. That said, there are swimmers who swim off hours or off season – just be prepared that the Parks Dept. might ask you to get out, and it’s within their jurisdiction to issue summonses as well. I will say that rarely happens. But Parks tends to hang around more in the summer months than in the off season.

ParticipantThanks Jacqueline! Does anyone swim in the Hudson River near Manhattan?

KeymasterNo – not without an event taking place. It’s too dangerous with boat traffic and a sure way to get arrested. 🙂
