ParticipantHi all,
I’m a CIBBOWS newbie dreading the end of season after falling in love with swimming this summer. I’m looking to squeeze in as much time in the water as possible before it’s too cold. What’s the scene like during weekdays before working hours? I would love to tag along if there are any groups open to one more.
As I said, I’m a newbie but I’m eager to get stronger, and go faster and longer!

ParticipantHi Allaire! There are peoples who swim in the mornings. Different times, and different groups. I can add you to an Facebook Group if you use FB. I was doing 7am, but started going to Sunset Park instead. There are plenty of others swimming at 7 or 8ish.

ParticipantHi Liam, would you be open to adding me to this Facebook Group? I’m interested in doing longer, early morning swims. Thank you!

GuestUnfortunately, there are no Hudson River swimming areas in that area. Hudson River swimming is definitely NOT a good idea. There are very strong tides and currents, and there’s nowhere to get in out in that area.
Take the B or Q trains to Brighton Beach – and turn left at Brighton 4th to find the CIBBOWs meet up area.-

KeymasterTo add to that, there’s a good chance that someone will call the police if they see people in the water. That area of downtown is very active with boat traffic and it’s not safe to swim unescorted.

GuestHi, I’ll be visiting NY from Cape Town. I’m looking to join a group of open water swimmers for a quick dip on one of the days 13-18 June before work.
Looking to do about 2miles or so. My pace is 2:10/100m’ish.
Seems like the likely location would be Brighton beach? What is the general water temp there? I’m comfortable swimming skins to about 50°F.
Is there a FB/Whatsapp group that I can join for more real-time logistics? Also, happy to support anyone coming out to Cape Town! 😎

KeymasterHi Werner! There are a number of people that go weekday mornings, usually an 8:30 group and there might be an earlier group as well though you must keep in mind that beaches don’t officially open with lifeguards till 10:00 am and swimming is prohibited before then so you take a chance. Water temp is around 63-65F these days.
