Catherine Fukushima

In by Jacqueline Broner

Catherine grew up in a town where the pool was basically summer day care. It was never a question of IF you were going to the pool – just what time. When she moved to Brooklyn she was lucky to land just a few blocks from the city’s Metropolitan Ave Pool where she found a great community of swim friends. In the summers they would head out to the beaches and swim as a group. Catherine has participated in open water events around NYC including Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, the Hudson River, Gimaldo’s Mile, and Breezy Point and gone as far as Lake George and Miami and bigger events. She came out to Brighton at the start of the pandemic in 2020 and hasn’t been back in the pool since then! She is passionate about introducing new swimmers to open water and contributing to the welcoming community she found in CIBBOWS.
