I have swum in a pool as long as I can remember but started open water swimming 10 years ago when a friend at my masters swim asked me to join them in a 10 mile lake race, the Kingdom Swim. Before that summer, swimming more than 500 yards at one time seemed impossible – and I was scared of deep water. With the help from people who have become some of my best friends, I overcame my fear of swimming where I can’t see the bottom and learned to become a fish using Terry Laughlin’s total immersion swimming videos. My longest swim to date is 19 miles in the Hudson (with current assist). Now is my turn to help you gain confidence in open water. You can become a fish too!
