A true water child, I grew up swimming in my local pool with my mom and grandmother as a baby. Loving the water from the very beginning, at five years old, swim team and diving off the high dive were my daily summer days. Water dominated my life: swim team in high school, water polo in college, even taking up synchronized swimming as my mid-life crisis. (And that doesn’t include sailing, kayaking, etc.)
However, I was a “pool kid” until Covid forced me to confront my open water swimming fears. Tentatively treading water in unknown water with unknown creatures, and starting slowly one jetty at a time until there were many jetties and Coney Island landmarks. Swimming weekly, in rain, shine, cold and all sorts of crazy weather and grateful for every minute of it and loving the challenge of open water – it has its own ideas of how far, how fast and acceptance of what is (or is not.)
An all-around fun person who enjoys a good laugh, I love to share my joy of the water and have taught adult swimming, and am a certified US Masters Swimming Level 2 coach.
