Adaptive Swim for Para Athletes

Your commitment includes a 45 minute Zoom training + 2 hours on beach per event. Unlike last year, all participants are required to be members of TriAchilles. This will be a training swim to prepare for upcoming summer events. They might be new to open water if this is their first triathlon, but they’ve done the pool prep. Caroline Matthews from CIBBOWS and Peter Helling of Starline Coaching return as your leaders! Land volunteers: Tasks will include greeting swimmers on the boardwalk, taking them down to meet their guide or extra muscle to help swimmers in and out of the water. Friends and family are welcome to volunteer! In-water guides: Swim time will be appropriate given water temperature. For example, June 9 swim may only be 400 yards or up to 25-30 minutes. 2024 Clinic Coaches and Group Swim Leaders

Introductory Clinics must be taught by experienced coaches with strong leadership to give confidence to new open water swimmers. Coaches must be able to give instruction on open water safety, show swimmers how to sight, demonstrate basic open water skills and show confidence in all conditions. It is important to keep this class fun and tuned to the ability of those attending. Up to 10 swimmers will be accommodated by two coaches. Coaches are strongly encouraged to be CPR certified within the last 2 years and MUST attend a CIBBOWS group leader training before the start of each season. Group swims should be led by any experienced open water swimmer who demonstrates strong leadership, positive attitude, and love of the ocean.
